Rahall Announces $6.6M for Community Health Centers
3/27/2009
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Nick J. Rahall, II (D-WV) today announced the availability of $6,672,135 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) through U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) grants for Community Health Centers in West Virginia.
“Community Health Centers in West Virginia are valuable providers of health care for the medically underserved,” said Rahall. “This funding will help maintain medical services into isolated areas of West Virginia where the need for medical care is great and resources are often scarce.”
Included in the $6,672,135 allocated to the state of West Virginia are:
- $140,822 for Northern Greenbrier Health Clinic, Inc. in Williamsburg
- $177,214 for the Community Health Foundation of Man
- $189,758 for Lincoln County Primary Care Center in Hamlin
- $189,866 for the Tug River Health Association, Inc. in Gary
- $224,666 for the Bluestone Health Association in Princeton
- $339,269 for the New River Health Association, Inc. in Scarbro
- $426,100 for Community Health Systems in Beckley
- $860,967 for Valley Health Systems, Inc. in Huntington
The funds are available, but not limited, to add new providers, expand hours of operations and expand services.
“This funding will see that West Virginians are able to get the care they need without necessitating a hospital stay or inconvenient travel. I’m thrilled to know that this money is coming back to the taxpayers and investing in the future of our health, ensuring timely care and creating the opportunity for employment and investment in the local economy,” said Rahall.
