3/26/2009
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Nick J. Rahall (D-WV), today announced the availability of $14,003,800 from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program in West Virginia.
"We have been blessed with a beautiful state and abundant natural resources," said Rahall. "Projects funded through these grants allow West Virginians to use these resources to create new jobs and grow the economy while protecting the environment and promoting our nation's energy independence."
Included in the $14,003,800 allocated to the state of West Virginia are:
- $83,100 for the City of Beckley
- $206,900 for Cabell County
- $228,900 for the City of Huntington
- $256,700 for Raleigh County
- $261,500 for Mercer County
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program will provide formula grants for projects that reduce total energy use and fossil fuel emissions, and improve energy efficiency across West Virginia.
“This funding will see that West Virginia can stay wild and wonderful as we all work together to encourage energy efficiency in growth projects across the Third District. I’m thrilled to know that this money is coming back to the taxpayers and investing in our future by putting people back to work and making sure that work will benefit this and the next generation by preserving the environment around us,” said Rahall.
