First DOH Recovery and Reinvestment Contracts Awarded

CHARLESTON - West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin and Secretary of Transportation Paul Mattox are pleased to announce the awarding of $7,171.062.95 in Highways contracts as part of the first round of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“As I have said all along, we have three main priorities when it comes to the Recovery Act, which include being responsible with the taxpayers' money, meeting the requirements of the legislation and creating jobs,” Gov. Joe Manchin said. “This is the Department of Transportation's first major step in producing real, tangible results from the recovery funds, and we will continue to put our stimulus dollars to work as quickly as possible.”

“This first round of awards includes a slide repair, two bridge overlays and nearly 11 miles of resurfacing projects,” explained Secretary Mattox.  “We believe the traveling public will begin to see the real benefits of this plan in creating and retaining jobs throughout West Virginia.  It also marks the beginning of some very worthy projects.”  

There were two Latex Modified Concrete Bridge Overlay contracts awarded.  Ahern & Associates, Inc. of South Charleston received a $773,800.00 contract that includes the eastbound and westbound sides of the Oakvale Bridge, along US 460 in Mercer County and a $481,187.00 contract was awarded to Orders Construction Company of St. Albans to provide a LMC Overlay on the Alderson Bridge along WV 3 in Monroe County.

Bilco Construction Company, Inc. of South Charleston received an $837,928.00 contract to provide slide repairs with pilings Smith Creek to  Franklin Road on US 220 in Pendleton County.

Resurfacing contracts were:

  • MARION
    • $1,130,391.00 to Mountaineer Contractors, Inc. of Kingwood for 2.19 miles Pricketts Fort Road in Fairmont along I-79, beginning from WV 310 to County 33
  • MERCER
    • $1,298,600.38 to West Virginia Paving, Inc. of Dunbar for 1.67 miles Bluefield Road along US 460, beginning at the junction of US 52, John Nash Blvd. to 1.83 miles east of junction of US 52
  • PLEASANTS
    • $788,651.12 to Kelly Paving, Inc. of Williamstown for 2.72 miles Willow Island Road in Waverly along WV 2 beginning .10 miles north of Wood County Line and ending .30 miles South of County 6  
  • RITCHIE
    • $930,410.60 to Kelly Paving, Inc. of Williamstown for 2.18 miles Camp Run Road in Nutter Farm along US 50, beginning .10 miles west of junction of County 5 to the junction of County 50/4
    • $930,094.85 to Kelly Paving, Inc. of Williamstown for 2.23 miles Ellenboro Road in Camp Run along US 50, .035 miles west of junction of County 5 to .02 miles west of Bonds Creek Bridge
