Washington, DC – Senator Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., today announced that four Department of Veterans Affairs’ Medical Centers in the State of West Virginia will share more than $20 million for repairs and upgrades to their facilities.  The funding was included as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Beckley VA Medical Center -- $1,645,000

Huntington VA Medical Center -- $6,240,000

The funding which will be released to the VA Medical Centers will be used for a variety of projects including renovating an emergency room, replacing heating, cooling and ventilation systems, upgrading outpatient waiting areas, labs, and rehabilitation units.

“This funding will help enhance these VA Medical Centers so that they can continue to provide quality care to those who have so ably and honorably served our Nation,” said Byrd.  “This stimulus funding, through the Veterans Health Administration’s facilities account program, will not only upgrade and renovate portions of these facilities, but will also help create and retain jobs throughout West Virginia.”

Byrd also announced that the West Virginia National Cemetery in Grafton will receive more than $71,000 for repairs to adequately maintain the National Cemetery property.
