Byrd Announces Stimulus Funding For Community Health Centers 

 

Washington, D.C…. U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., is pleased to announce the release of nearly $7 million to 29 West Virginia Health Centers.  This funding was made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

           

“Boldly addressing our nation’s health care issues must be a key component of any strategy for long-term economic growth and prosperity,” Byrd said.  “In West Virginia, we grapple with some of the nation’s worst behavioral-risk factors and gaps in access to preventative care and education.  This new funding will have a direct, immediate, and positive impact on the lives of West Virginians, especially in our more rural areas.”

 

Services at the community health centers may be expanded through such actions as adding new providers, extending hours of operation, or widening the variety of services that are offered, as well as through other methods.

 

Grantees submitted plans explaining how the funding would be used.  The health centers that will receive funding, and the cities in which they are located, are as follows:
