Achieve21 

Education Jobs Fund monies are allowed to be used by the West Virginia County Boards of Education to start or continue an extended time program for students known as Achieve21.

Goals:

ACHIEVE211 is a program designed to provide individualized instruction through extended time (before or after school) by a certified teacher for PK-12 students who are not currently performing at a level reflective of mastery of the identified content standards and objectives or college or career readiness. The identified students demonstrate deficiencies in one or more critical skill areas assessed by multiple state assessments (i.e., WESTEST2, ACT EXPLORE, PLAN or ACT Assessment) or they require additional individualized assistance to successfully master the content of a course required for graduation or acceptance into a post secondary program of studies, including students in honors or advanced placement courses.

Objectives:

1. To provide one-on-one extended learning instruction for PK- 2 students who have exhibited difficulty with phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary or weakness in foundational skills in number sense, or grade 3-12 students who have demonstrated only partial mastery of critical skills in any content area assessed by the WESTEST2.

2. To provide one-on-one extended learning instruction for students in grades 8-12 who are not scoring at or above the ACT EXPLORE or PLAN benchmarks for college and career readiness:
  1. EXPLORE English – 13; Mathematics – 17; Reading – 15; and Science – 20
  2. PLAN English – 15; Mathematics– 19; Reading – 17; Science – 21
  3. ACT English – 18; Mathematics – 22; Reading – 21; Science – 24
3. To provide one-on-one extended learning instruction for high school students exhibiting deficiencies in their performance on formative classroom assessments designed to target critical course objectives in any credit-bearing honors, Advanced Placement, International baccalaureate or world language course (virtual or face-to-face) leading to acceptance into a post secondary program of studies.

4. To provide ACHIEVE21 tutors with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully assist students in meeting the criteria identified above:
  1. Webinars designed to prepare ACHIEVE21 tutors with the development of critical skills in reading, language, English, mathematics, science and social studies at specific programmatic levels
  2. Webinars designed to prepare identified ACHIEVE21 tutors in targeting the critical skills and learning activities that will assist students in attaining the ACT EXPLORE, PLAN and ACT Assessment benchmark scores.
  3. Content-specific webinars to assist ACHIEVE21 tutors in preparing students for success in honors, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and other advanced courses.
5. To provide a summative program evaluation, the chief goal of which is to document the academic performance of all students who receive additional instructional services delivered by ACHIEVE21 tutors using measures such as WESTEST2, SAT, PLAN, EXPLORE and ACT.
